Hotels for Obama Inauguration in DC are available!

Latest Update: 12/30 -- Scroll to the bottom of this post for the latest updates!

Yes, it's true -- hotels in and around Washington, DC do have rooms available for the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.

However, most have minimum stay policies in effect -- you'll need to stay at least 3 nights (4 nights if you want more options). So, consider extending your stay (spend a few days taking in the sights and sounds).

Hotels in the surrounding suburbs are a little easier to come by (but most still fall under those minimum stay provisions). Some people are even booking hotels in Baltimore.

It's easy to see what's available. Head over to our DC hotel list and click the "enter your travel dates" link. Choose your dates (Inauguration Day is Tuesday, January 20th, 2009) and submit the form.

Good luck! I'll continue to update this post as more information becomes available (or if we find out all rooms have been booked up). If you have any info, please post it here. Thanks!

However, we did find another hotel with availability, the Holiday Inn Express Springfield Virginia - $480/nt

** Update (11/11/2008 @ 4pm) **

I'll start looking and see what I can find for you! Definitely check out the links (scroll to the bottom of the post to see the most recent updated availability) and check for availability.

You can also do a search for Bethesda hotel availability.

Unfortunately, some places are showing up as available (like the Holiday Inn Laurel) even though they aren't...

would recommend a new free online service if you want to stay for cheap—The Room Exchange Network— http://www.roomexnet.com. This is an online service—free to use—that matches people seeking cheap, clean short-term housing with individuals that have properties to offer on a short-term basis. It’s certainly a better option than trying to get a $700 per night room at The Red Roof Inn. And, if you have a property in DC, why not list it there?

Rob:

I run a Foundation called the Ukpe-Roberts Foundation. Through individual donations of hotel reservations many, many months ago, we obtained over 100 hotel reservations for this inauguration. Most of the individuals either overbooked for family and friends, or made other accommodations, or simply decided to support our Hotels 4 Life Campaign, benefiting HIV/AIDS prevention and awarenss. We have successfully transferred many of our reservations but still have many more. All of our reservations were booked early in the year when pre-payment was not required by the hotel, and the rates were hundreds of dollars lower per night. Down side is that all of the reservations are 5 days/ 5 nights from January 17-22, and can not be changed without incurring the hotels new rate of $750+ per night, with minimum 4-5 night stay.

We have rooms at the Residence Inn, DC Capitol, less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol Building; Residence Inn, Arlington Pentagon; The Key Bridge Marriott, Arlington; and the Residence Inn DC Vermont Avenue. Most are suites with a living room and kitchenette.

Feel free to visit our website: www.ukpe-robertsfoundation.org.

This is a perfect location for the presidential inauguration located just one mile from the steps of the capital building and a 5 min walk to a metro. You will be centrally located in the heart of downtown DC and close to all the sights DC has to offer. It is a spacious hotel room located on Fort McNair on the waterfront of DC. It is a safe location and controlled by security at the gates and is a safe place to leave car for your stay. There is no parking fee and you will be able to get anywhere you want to go and not have to deal with traffic or fight for parking take advantage of this before it is gone.
Email me at jeremiahamy1484@gmail.com with any questions I will be more than happy to help you plan your stay.
Price is $900 a night

I am a travel agent in Indiana I had really good rate at the crown plaza Old Town in Alexandria VA about 2 miles from Washington National airport where they offer free shuttle. The metro is also at the airport that can be taken into the city. I just turned back 50 rooms to them. They are close and they should also have availabililty. They are trying to tell me that they will not be able to sell the rooms at this point. I know there are a lot of people looking still and trying to find something close. Just thought I would share.

You guys are missing the picture here. Use craigslist.com or call me! I live in DC (2 blocks behind Capitol) and have listed my place on craigslist for 2 weeks w/ not one response. I have TONS of friends doing the same. My apartment is super safe, nice and sleeps 6 and for $1,200/night that's $200/night per person - CHEAP! Contact me and I can easily find you housing within 5 miles of the city. You're insane to stay in Richmond or Maryland when there's still SO MUCH available in the city and it's not any cheaper than you're getting in the boondocks. Also, don't be afraid to negotiate on craigslist. My email: a_nimmer@yahoo.com.

I have a rooming house in Capitol Hill. The neighborhood is completely gentrified and the property has been uninhabited for a year. Now I have spent a year renovating and fully furnishing all eight rooms. Parking is included in the package. Visit my site inaugurationhub.webs.com for pics and more info or call 1-800-645-8849.
